Doors come off the chero!
Easy mod that works and looks great.
What to get some really crazy looks in your XJ(Cherokee)? Solution is to take the doors off, plus its awesome driving with out doors. Haven't really found out if its legal or not but I figure Wranglers do it all the time why can't I. Had several cops pull up next to me at stop lights and not say a word, but maybe the just didn't want to bother with the cracked windsheild, questionable homemade bumpers, exhaust or lack there of or missing doors. Oh well here's some tips and pics of how I did mine. Thinkin about trying to make some soft doors for it soon so I don't have to pack around the big heavy metal ones in case it rains.

Step 1 - get out the cutting tools.
I used a right angle grinder with a cut off disc which worked great. Possible to use a hack saw but it could take you forever. Cut off the lower tab of the bracket bolted to the door as shown above. |

Step 2 - get out the hammer.
Hammer the cut off tab down off the pivot pin for the door, also disconnect the door props. Now hammer up on the remaining tabe bolted to the door. May have to use a screwdriver to pry the doors up off the rest of the way. Make sure to disconnect or just cut all the wires that goes ot the doors.

Step 3 - your decision
This next step is upto you. The stock pivot pins are hallow and have a tendency to bend and break if not properly supported by the bottom tab and excessive removal and re-installation of the doors. I choose to get some solid steel rod at the local hardware store that was the same size or slightly smaller and replace the pins. I found it best to have the pins permenately stationed in the bracket on the truck. The best thing to do is put alittle spot weld on the bottom of the pin in the bracket and round off the top of the pin so the doors slide on easier.
